Mariah Carey is grieving the loss of both her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, who tragically passed away on the same day over the weekend, PEOPLE confirms.

In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, the 55-year-old Grammy-winning singer expressed her heartbreak: "My heart is shattered as I mourn the loss of my mother this past weekend. In a heartbreaking twist of fate, my sister also passed away on the same day."

Mariah shared her gratitude for the time she spent with her mother before her passing, saying, "I feel blessed to have spent the last week with my mom before she left us. I appreciate the love, support, and respect for my privacy during this incredibly difficult time."
