Pete Rose, baseball’s all-time hits leader and former icon whose career was overshadowed by his gambling on the sport, has passed away at the age of 83. Stephanie Wheatley, a spokesperson for Clark County, Nevada, confirmed that Rose died on Monday. According to ABC News, a family member discovered him, and while the coroner is set to investigate the cause of death, there are no indications of foul play. Rose had recently appeared at an autograph event in Nashville with former teammates Tony Perez, George Foster, and Dave Concepcion.

For fans from the 1960s and 1970s, Rose, famously known as "Charlie Hustle," was one of the most electrifying players of his time. With his shaggy hair, determined expression, and relentless playing style, Rose became a symbol of old-school baseball, a throwback to the sport’s early days. A 17-time All-Star and switch hitter, Rose played on three World Series-winning teams and holds several major league records, including games played (3,562) and plate appearances (15,890). He was named National League MVP in 1973 and World Series MVP in 1975. Rose was a crucial figure in the Reds' 1975 and 1976 championship teams, which featured Hall of Famers Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, and Joe Morgan.
